FRIDA KAHLO, LONG LIVE LIFE
AT THE CARRIAGE HOUSE THEATER
HARTFORD CT
Directed by Hiram Marina
Featuring Yari Castro

SYNOPSIS
On the Mexican holiday of the Day of the Dead, Frida Kahlo, the most revered artist in the history of Mexico, waits for her party guests and while she cooks, evokes memories of Rockefeller, Trotsky, and her tempestuous marriages with artist Diego Rivera.

She shares her impressions of living in New York and Paris, her observation of other cultures, and resurrects visceral memories of a near-fatal tram accident and the resulting pain and infertility that haunted her life.

Her intimacy with death makes this a cry of pain, passion and humor as Frida laughs, sings, dances, seduces, and incites joy, reminding us that we have the incomparable gift of still being alive.
As much of the text of the play was taken from the letters and writings of Frida, it is a spirited revelation of her life and her many complicated relationships, including those with her patrons and her homeland.

Like her paintings, her observations are impossible to ignore and bring us into the very mind and being of Frida Kahlo, illuminating the inspirations for her paintings, and the undeniable triumphs she experienced. Her passion while overcoming adversity is what brings her to life, crowned in flowers and fearlessness.
